Princess Kate Middleton to Present Trophy at Wimbledon Amid Cancer Treatment
Kensington Palace has announced that the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, will make a rare public appearance to present the winning trophy at the men’s singles final of the Wimbledon Championships on July 14. This marks her second official engagement since revealing her ongoing cancer treatment.
The 42-year-old senior royal, an avid tennis player, will attend the final in her capacity as Patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, a role she has held since 2016. The Princess will present the Grand Slam trophy to either Novak Djokovic or Carlos Alcaraz following their highly anticipated match on the famed grass courts of Wimbledon.
“The Princess of Wales, Patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, will attend the Gentlemen's Singles Final of The Championships, Wimbledon on Sunday 14th July,” Kensington Palace said in a statement.
This appearance comes after Princess Kate’s first official engagement post-surgery and chemotherapy, which was at King Charles III’s annual birthday parade, Trooping the Colour, last month. She joined her father-in-law, husband Prince William, and their three children – Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis – on the Buckingham Palace balcony for the customary photograph.
The Princess revealed her diagnosis of an undisclosed form of cancer in March and has since been undergoing preventative chemotherapy. In June, she emphasized the importance of taking things slow to allow her body to heal, stating,
“As anyone going through chemotherapy will know, there are good days and bad days. I am learning how to be patient, especially with uncertainty. Taking each day as it comes, listening to my body, and allowing myself to take this much-needed time to heal.”
While Princess Kate is set to be in London, Prince William will be in Berlin to support England in the finals of Euro 2024 against Spain. As President of the Football Association (FA), the 42-year-old Prince of Wales has been a fervent supporter of the Three Lions throughout the tournament. England’s advancement to their first Euros final on foreign soil has been a significant milestone, and Prince William will be cheering them on in Germany.
Princess Kate’s presence at Wimbledon, despite her ongoing treatment, highlights her dedication to her royal duties and her passion for tennis. Her appearance is expected to draw significant attention and support from the public as she continues her journey towards recovery.
